a sense of belonging.

Why do we have a constant strive or need to join something bigger than us? Or an institution or firm that has massive market power and influence? -I do not speak for everyone, but being surrounded by hundreds of fellow students that wish to join a company after they graduate, it is hard to ignore the constant chatter about graduate placements and job seeking stress. We all know that universities are producing more students than there are jobs! But perhaps there is an underlying innate sense of belonging that people want to be a part of.

Whilst researching on for my dissertation, I stumbled across an economic paper that presents findings about low-trust and economic development in Latin America. Here is what it says;

fly landing.

20120429-133848.jpg

…so often we see a bird take off and land all around us… this is because we also see the relative surrondings that surrounds the creature… howevever, what if we take away the surroundings and the capture the creature itself at the very moment? can one tell whether it is taking off or landing?…

Now consider your position in your life. Your ‘taking off’ or ‘landing’ in your career, relationship or any respect of your life would be dictated by the relative surrondings. Remove the surrondings, take time as given and ‘sieze the day’…

trust – nurture or nature?

We always ask ourselves if we can trust those of whom that we trade with. How often do we consider the essence of the level of trust that we have with others? Are we to consider that it is hereditary or are we nurtured in such a way. Continue reading

lost in thought.

…in my realm, I plug peripherals in my ears… the music is my bubble… the world cannot touch me as I create my solitude in this environment of no privacy…
…in my body I am limited …in my mind I am free… feel no pain… feel no guilt… feel no burden…

…my heart is pure …my brain creates my realm …my limits are limitless…
…I create …I destroy …I manipulate…
my vision blurs as I become lost… lost in thought…

over the fence.

…if only i could see over the fence all the time!… come see with me… the wonders of the greener pastures on the other side of this white obstacle. climb with me and explore the other side… the other side where adventure, tranquil and mystery awaits us to journey them… come with me and take a sneak peak of the unexplored world that lies just over this fence!

…come climb with me… climb over whatever fence life decides to put in front of us…

the solitude leaders.

An excellent video on TED.com by Susan Cain about the power of well needed solitude.

Let us put aside well known leaders mentioned in the video or what researchers and scientists find for a moment. Most people enjoy the company of others and its not a sign of weakness but it is in fact a strength if we can actually embrace.

Susan has vividly described the importance of being in a group whilst alone. What does this mean? Well let us dig deeper into her younger days when she enjoyed reading together with her family. -where there was no direct interaction, however the security of being together with each other was there.

Keith Sawyer has also critique Susan Cain and made very valid points about her idea.

If we dig deeper into the essence of group think and individual think, are they not the same at some level?
Relatively, ‘a group’ only exists when there exists ‘the being of an individual’ or ‘not in a group’, vice versa for the case of being an individual. -what does this have to do with anything? Some argument can be made such that the group needs individuals to function as a group and an individual is an accumulation of his/her surroundings over time OR whatever the group they have been surrounded by overtime.

Thus, we need the group for the individual to exist and an individual for the group to exist. Susan talks about the importance of solitude. Solitude is important to get in touch with ones’ self. However, ones’ self must have such direction and that direction is influenced by the group that that individual has been subjected to. Complete solitude is near to impossible, without a religious or cult motivation behind it. Thus it is important to understand that there lies a unique balance between the both.

…a ying and yang perhaps…

As an individual, one must explore his/her group where that group they are the most comfortable. From there she/he must make observations, assumptions and collect information, whether be it relevant or not relevant. Thereafter, one must process this information over time and create a reality to own their own development.

Collect information, process information, conclude session, create individual and group reality, exercise and execute, gain feedback and more information, process information….. and the cycle continues…

confused? -read it again, go and process it and come back…

small perception.

Size is just a perception.

Vehicles would be big up close, but at a far enough perception, it would be interpreted as small.

Isn’t it amazing that the human mind can conceptualise such a phenomenon?

What has your perception been lately?

its a waiting game.

Sometimes its not the pain that hurts the most… its the waiting that gets to you…

But good things come to those who are patient…
